This site gives an orientation about the work of Professor Klaus Spremann in the area of Finance, Investment, Capital Markets. Publications and course material are offered for Download.

Klaus Spremann, Professor and Academic Director, is working mainly in two areas:
  • Finance and Capital Markets,
  • Portfolio Theory, Private Banking, Asset Management. 
After five years of study at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Klaus Spremann graduated in Mathematics (Diplom-Mathematiker Degree 1972). He wrote his doctoral thesis on Pontryagin's maximum principle, also at the TUM (Dr.rer.nat. 1973). Attracted by applications of mathematics in economics he wrote his Habilitation Thesis and started to teach in Economics at the Technical University of Karlsruhe (1975). After a deputy professorship in Karlsruhe he became a Full Professor and Director of the Department of Economics at the University of Ulm, where he helped to set up the course of study "Wirtschaftsmathematik" (1977-1990). In 1990, Spremann became Professor of Business Administration (Ordinarius) at the University of St Gallen and Director at the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance, positions he hold till 2012 when he was conferred emeritus status.
 
After several academic visits in Asia, he started to teach regularly at SMU (Singapore Management University), and directed the Singapore Hub of the University of St Gallen (2008-2012). In between, Spremann was inaugurating the HongKongBank Professorship in International Finance at the University of Hong Kong (1993-94), where afterwards he was invited to serve as a Honorary Professor. In addition, Spremann was a Visiting Professor in Vancouver (1982), in Taipei (1987), and in Innsbruck (2004). In 2008 he was awarded a Honorary Doctor Degree (Dr.rer.pol. h.c.) by the University of Ulm.

Professor Spremann is a member of several academic institutions, and he helps to review papers and to supervise doctoral students. During his three decades of professorship he supervised or co-supervised 100 Ph.D. students, while having supervised some 300 Master and Diplom Thesis. He is member of a jury and of academic counsels and societies. Klaus Spremann always tries to contribute to society. So he authored a radio transmission (in the RSI), he directed the "Studium Generale" in Ulm, provided his expertise to the Scuola cantonale di commercio in Bellinzona (1995-2008), and he is writing articles for newspapers and periodicals to make various subjects in the area of finance and investments better understandable. Spremann founded two companies, served in a number of boards, and he accepts practical assignments from the business world and from governmental bodies.
